The Hada Labo Gokujyun Alpha is the age-care evolution of Japan's best-selling toner range — a medically certified formula that simultaneously delivers deep, lasting moisture and visibly addresses the most common concerns of mature skin, including fine lines, loss of firmness, dark spots, and dullness.

As with all Hada Labo lotions, a quick note on terminology: in Japanese skincare, a "lotion" refers to a hydrating toner applied after cleansing, not a Western-style moisturiser. This is a first-step treatment that floods skin with moisture and prepares it to absorb everything that follows.

At the heart of the formula is niacinamide — an active medicated ingredient clinically recognised for its ability to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while simultaneously suppressing melanin production to prevent and fade dark spots and hyperpigmentation. Three types of hyaluronic acid work alongside it to deliver layered, comprehensive hydration: sodium hyaluronate forms a protective barrier at the skin's surface, hydrolysed hyaluronic acid penetrates deeper into the skin's layers for lasting moisture, and acetylated sodium hyaluronate — the star of the Hada Labo range — adsorbs directly to the skin's surface for instant, sustained softness and suppleness. Acetyl glucosamine helps to further brighten and even skin tone over time, while phellodendron amurense bark extract — a traditional East Asian botanical — provides soothing, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial benefits. Meadowfoam seed oil seals in moisture with a lightweight, non-greasy touch.

The result is skin that feels noticeably firmer, more hydrated, and more even-toned from the very first use — with a slightly richer texture than the original Gokujyun, making it especially well suited to dry, dehydrated, and mature skin types. Fragrance-free, colorant-free, mineral oil-free, alcohol-free, and paraben-free.

How to use: After cleansing, pour a small amount into the palm, gently warm between hands, and press onto the face and neck until fully absorbed. Layer two to three times for extra hydration during drier months. Follow with moisturiser or serum.
